Computer Programmer for Environmental Epidemiology

Sebibc is seeking a talented and highly motivated computer programmer to join the research team of Dr. Joan Ballester at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal). The chosen candidate will contribute to the creation of a new research database, analyzing a novel database of human health in Europe, which incorporates environmental, socioeconomic, and demographic variables, as well as novel digital data streams at different spatiotemporal scales.

The team is at the forefront of environmental epidemiology, and the successful candidate will work on various research projects, mainly the ERC Consolidator grant EARLY-ADAPT. This grant aims to jointly analyze the multiple drivers of recent trends in human health, with a focus on early adaptation to climate change.

The main duties of the chosen candidate will include searching for and downloading open access data sources, implementing harmonization protocols, writing and running scripts to transform the data into a common format, and interacting with the scientists of the group to adapt the data to their scientific needs.

The project will allow the detection, understanding, and quantification of inequalities in adaptation between countries, regions, cities, and social groups. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a daily, continental-wide database with multiple health outcomes, climate variables, air pollutants, desert dust, and winter infectious diseases.

The team is looking for a highly motivated and talented individual who is passionate about environmental epidemiology and data analysis. The chosen candidate will have the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge project, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and researchers.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in computer programming, data analysis, and research. They will be able to work independently and as part of a team, and will have excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

The contract will be for a fixed period, and the salary will be competitive. The team is looking for a candidate who is available to start as soon as possible.
