Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator to join our team at Orion Health. As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our databases, applying best practices, and implementing industry standards to maintain high availability, reliability, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and optimize database systems to ensure high performance and availability
  • Analyze and implement industry best practices for database management
  • Design and implement proactive monitoring and observability of database metrics
  • Monitor database health and performance, responding to alerts and incidents in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with peer SREs to roll out application upgrades and changes to our production environment
  • Diagnose, mitigate, and resolve database-related incidents during business and On Call hours
  • Participate in post-incident analysis, identifying root causes and implementing preventative measures
  • Design and deliver optimizations, automation, and continuous improvement of database infrastructure
  • Contribute to capacity planning and scalability initiatives, ensuring database resources can handle growing demands while optimizing for cost
  • Document changes and learnings, ensuring repeatable proactive actions
  • Stay current with industry best practices and emerging technologies to continuously improve database reliability

Requirements

  • Strong Microsoft SQL Server skills, including architecture, administration, and performance tuning
  • Good understanding of data management principles and proven experience with SQL HA and DR technologies
  • Exceptional troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with competent SQL query writing and refactoring
  • Intermediate or higher level cloud skills, with AWS preferred
  • A proactive, continuous improvement mindset, with a focus on fixing issues
