Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Electromechanical Actuation Systems Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of our innovative unmanned aircraft systems.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead the design and development of flight control actuation systems, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  2. Perform trade studies to identify the most suitable actuation approaches for electromechanical mechanisms and control surfaces.
  3. Develop and maintain sizing and performance requirements for actuation systems, taking into account loads, rates, and redundancy requirements.
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to synthesize specifications from industry best practices, performance requirements, environmental requirements, and concept of operations.
  5. Conduct preliminary design and analysis to validate requirements and support make/buy decisions for actuators, motors, and motion control devices.
  6. Direct mechanical and electrical designers in detailed design activities for actuation items.
  7. Manage subcontractors throughout the contracting, requirements, testing, and delivery phases.
  8. Develop and execute acceptance test procedures and system checkout procedures for actuation systems.
  9. Define and verify plans for sub-systems and validate them through laboratory and aircraft testing.
  10. Develop aircraft installation and checkout procedures.
Requirements
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant field.
  2. Proven experience in aerospace industries, performing design, build, and operational testing for motion control systems.
  3. Experience with hardware verification programs for aerospace systems.
  4. History of integrating software and hardware components in flight-critical or safety-critical systems.
  5. Understanding of motors, motor controllers, drive mechanisms, and gearboxes.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  2. Experience working in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) or system integration labs (SIL).
  3. Designed test stations for avionics verification testing, including harnesses, special test equipment, rack design, creation of BOMs, and procurement of equipment.
  4. 10+ years of experience in aerospace or defense industries in actuation systems.
  5. Experience with analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters, power supply components, analog testing/troubleshooting techniques, and signal integrity, layout, and grounding principles.
  6. Applied experience with hard real-time operating systems and embedded systems.
  7. Exposure to hardware-in-the-loop environments outside of aerospace (automotive, robotics, medical, etc.).
