Job Title: Counsellor (Maternity Leave)

We are seeking a well-qualified and dynamic Counsellor to support the Diploma Programme at SEK International School El Castillo. This is a maternity cover starting in September 2023.

About the School

SEK International School El Castillo is a co-educational, day and boarding school located about 20 kms from Madrid, with a student body of 1170 students. The school is an IB World School since 1977, offering the PYP, MYP, and DP. We are accredited by NEASC and a member of the European Council of International Schools.

Job Objectives
  1. Implement and oversee a secondary school guidance programme that provides students with a safe and non-judgemental way to voice their concerns or worries.
  2. Contribute to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare and personal care of children and young people.
  3. Assist school leadership, programme coordinator, and teachers with planning and carrying out school-related programmes and events.
  4. Participate in admissions processes.
  5. Analyse student performance in the school section to provide guidance and identify potential challenges or matters of concern.
  6. Help students develop academic plans in accordance with their skills, talents, and strengths.
  7. Observe confidentiality and support the school's endeavour to provide excellent teaching and learning for all students.
  8. Facilitate intervention and prevention programmes.
Responsibilities
  1. Advise and counsel students regarding academic, educational, and short-term social and emotional problems.
  2. Remain universally accessible and build rapport with every student for whom they are responsible.
  3. Provide individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding academic matters.
  4. Teach guidance classes and provide guidance counselling to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings.
  5. Consult, facilitate, and maintain communication with families, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents to ensure a holistic approach supporting our students.
  6. Provide feedback and recommend appropriate action and solutions to individual student's academic and educational needs and abilities.
  7. Communicate, coordinate, and collaborate with behavioural health specialists on developing and implementing student supports.
  8. Prepare and deliver content for Open Days, School Fairs, and other School promotion events or materials.
  9. Support and attend appropriate student activities and events across the school sections as part of the Counselling Department action plans.
