Role Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Software Engineer with extensive experience in Python programming and a solid understanding of AWS. This role is pivotal in enhancing and broadening LocalStack's AWS core cloud emulator through feature development, parity enhancements, and integrations. While proficiency in Python and AWS is critical, familiarity with other cloud platforms will be considered a plus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enhance LocalStack's AWS emulator by applying and extending the emulator framework to implement and validate AWS APIs.
  • Collaborate within a Core Engineering team to develop features that cater to the needs of developers utilizing AWS environments.
  • Create high-performance local cloud service emulators, ensuring a strong emphasis on reliability and user experience.
  • Contribute to the advancement of LocalStack's architecture and frameworks, while actively participating in the Open Source community.
  • Improve the robustness of LocalStack's AWS emulator by developing AWS sample applications and conducting parity tests.
  • Lead the establishment of scalable support processes as our company and user base expand.
  • Facilitate the flow of customer feedback to the development and product teams to influence product direction.
  • Engage closely with larger clients as our enterprise offerings evolve, ensuring their needs are met comprehensively.
Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on Python development.
  • Proficient in modern Python development practices, including type hinting, unit/integration testing with pytest, and object-oriented design.
  • Demonstrated expertise in AWS services and cloud technologies, with a solid grasp of AWS APIs, SDKs, and infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to address complex technical challenges in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to engage effectively with colleagues.
  • A collaborative and empathetic approach to tasks and challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with other cloud platforms such as Azure or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architecture.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools for automation, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Active involvement in open-source communities or contributions to relevant projects.
  • Experience in developing tools for developers.
