The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is a leading international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with a diverse team of over 400 scientists from 44 countries. Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Operations Developer to join our team at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG). As a pivotal member of our team, you will take on responsibilities investigating and resolving operational processes on a daily basis, contributing to the project National IMPaCT-Data. You will leverage your skills and problem-solving abilities to meticulously investigate issues, identify their root causes, and implement effective solutions to ensure the seamless functioning of the EGA services and databases.

About the EGA

The EGA (European Genome-Phenome Archive) is a resource for permanent secure archiving and sharing of all types of potentially identifiable bio-molecular, phenotypic, and clinical data resulting from biomedical research projects. We host over 16 petabytes of data, including more than 3700 studies and 8600 datasets. The EGA is an active partner in numerous international and national projects and contributes to establishing international standards in genomics and health research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate and resolve operational processes on a daily basis
  • Leverage skills and problem-solving abilities to identify root causes and implement effective solutions
  • Ensure the seamless functioning of the EGA services and databases
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and streamlining of operational processes
Requirements
  • Expertise in advanced PostgreSQL, including PL/pgSQL and replication
  • Advanced Python skills
  • Knowledge on AWS, specifically for S3, EC2, SES
  • Familiarity with messaging software, specifically RabbitMQ
  • Knowledge on Jenkins for automating software development processes
  • Experience with Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) pipelines
  • Advanced Linux systems administration
  • Knowledge on Docker and related tooling
  • Proficiency in SQL and familiarity with Big Data database technologies
Education and Training
  • Hold a Degree in Computational Science or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar position
  • Proven experience in Linux distributions, databases, system security, and related technologies
Languages
  • Fluent in English, as it is the working language of the group

Desirable but not required
  • Genomics data expertise: knowledge of genomics data, including data types, tools, pipelines, and indexing technologies
