Key Responsibilities

As a backend developer within the Data Solutions team, your role will involve constructing and enhancing the core systems that power the Adyen platform, with an emphasis on expanding access to the intelligence and capabilities that businesses require to fulfill their most ambitious objectives.

We are currently seeking engineers to join our Feature Platform team. This team supports our merchants by integrating machine-learning-driven products into the payment process, enabling them to discover, create, and utilize complex features. Your responsibilities will include developing data pipelines to generate aggregations and establishing a distributed storage framework capable of serving these features in real-time payment scenarios, on a global scale.

This is a unique opportunity to engage with cutting-edge industry technology: given the volume and constraints associated with near real-time decision-making, standard solutions are often insufficient.

  • Develop and sustain our feature platform, which is crucial for supplying input data to machine learning models during both training and scoring phases.
  • Join a diverse and inclusive team.
  • Collaborate within a cross-functional and international team (some members are based in Amsterdam) that includes roles such as Data Engineering, Data Science, and Product Management.
  • Embrace a fast-paced launch and iterative process, meaning that within your initial weeks, you will deploy code that influences numerous businesses and consumers.
  • Take full ownership from the initial design phase to the deployment of new functionalities.
  • Identify and enhance aspects of the platform to improve its robustness and scalability.
  • Work collaboratively across teams and time zones to drive progress, review code, and remain open to constructive feedback.

Who You Are:

  • You possess demonstrated experience with programming languages such as Python and JVM-based languages (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Scala), as well as with distributed systems and large-scale databases (both relational and non-relational).
  • You have a solid understanding of data pipelines and ETL processes for preparing and managing data for machine learning training and inference.
  • You are proficient with observability tools, including Prometheus, Logsearch, Kibana, and Grafana.
  • You enjoy taking ownership, leading projects, and engaging others, grounded in a strong understanding of the underlying rationale.
  • You possess excellent communication skills and can convey complex technical concepts effectively.
  • As part of an international team, you must have full professional proficiency (both written and verbal) in English.
  • Familiarity with integrating machine learning into practical systems is advantageous.
  • Previous experience on platform teams or with open-sourcing internal projects is a plus.
  • Our technology stack includes Cassandra, Kafka, Flink, Spark, Airflow, Python 3, Java 17, Gradle, PostgreSQL, and Elasticsearch.
