Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE) is a nonprofit law firm dedicated to ensuring equal justice and opportunity for individuals living on low incomes in Ohio. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervising Attorney to lead our Agricultural Worker and Immigrant Rights Practice Group.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and manage a team of attorneys and staff to advance the practice group's goals and objectives.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive legal strategy to achieve racial equity and justice for agricultural workers and immigrants.
- Work closely with the Managing Attorney to oversee the practice group's operations, including case management, team development, and community outreach.
- Engage in public education and communications, representing ABLE in public settings, including conferences, media appearances, and blog posts.
- Manage grant writing and reporting, including drafting, implementation, compliance, and reporting to funders.
- Promote the improvement and effectiveness of the program and implemented initiatives.
- Licensed attorney admitted to the Ohio Bar or able to be admitted by motion or passage of the next available bar examination.
- Minimum of five (5) years of legal experience, preferably in litigation and immigration law.
- Ability to communicate fluently in Spanish and experience working with interpreters.
- Litigation and immigration legal experience, particularly in removal proceedings and humanitarian forms of relief.
- Knowledge of agricultural worker legal rights and an understanding of community lawyering.
- Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and administrative abilities, with excellent legal skills and written and oral communication skills.
- Commitment to ABLE's mission and to ABLE's clients and client communities.
- Ability to mentor, coach, and work effectively with staff in both remote and in-office environments.
ABLE offers a competitive salary range of $81,000 to $101,300, comprehensive fringe benefits, including health insurance and student loan repayment assistance up to $6,000 per year. Hybrid work is likely, with in-office supervision, court hearings, meetings with community partners, and client-based work required.
