Principal Combat Designer

Scopely is seeking a highly skilled Principal Combat Designer to join our team in Ireland, working remotely. As a global leader in the mobile games industry, we're passionate about creating engaging experiences for millions of players worldwide.

We're in the early stages of developing a cross-platform Strategy/MMO featuring a well-known IP. This is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact on one of our next big releases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and balance dedicated combat systems, ensuring an engaging and high-performing user experience.
  • Collaborate with our Creative Director to advance and grow the team.
  • Work closely with Lead Design and Product to design new features.
  • Align with our dev teams to ensure accurate implementation of designs.
  • Playtest the game, continuously pushing for improvements to existing designs.
  • Mentor and grow younger Designers on the team.
  • Establish processes and tools with stakeholders from concept design through launch.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience as a Systems or Game Designer.
  • Outstanding understanding of combat systems and synergistic mechanics.
  • Consistent record of designing and balancing synergistic combat mechanics.
  • Strong understanding of content distribution.
  • Incredible energy and the ambition to create the next blockbuster mass-market game.
  • Outstanding organizational agility.
  • A positive, confident, open-minded, and inspirational attitude.
  • Highly proactive and action-focused.

Bonus Points:

  • Excel VBA or scripting experience.
  • Experience in building simulations.
  • Understanding of system-driven player-owned narrative.
  • Relevant qualifications in Computing, Maths, Statistics, and/or Economics.
  • Solid understanding of event-driven live operations in mobile games.
  • Experience in mentoring.
  • An avid player of F2P strategy games.
