Research Assistant Position in DEMOC Project

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join our team at the Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals. The successful candidate will have a background in political science, economics, or law, and a strong willingness to conduct qualitative data collection and analysis.
The position requires fluency in Catalan and English, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The work commitment is 20 hours/week for 6 months, with a possibility to extend. The position can be done partially remote, but some meetings will take place in person at our office.
The Research Assistant will contribute to the project by identifying the legal framework of the studied agencies, analyzing them, and summarizing the democratic qualities following a coding scheme. Additionally, the candidate will research and identify relevant decision-makers in the studied bodies, contact them, and conduct semi-structured interviews. Responsibilities also include transcribing and translating interviews and performing minor administrative tasks.
The project includes a training and capacity-building component and is ideal for candidates seeking to develop skills and insights related to advanced research project design. Upon successful performance, the candidate will be invited to co-author papers for conferences and journal submissions to support their career development.
