At Grafana Labs, we are the creators of an open-source distributed tracing backend that is designed to be user-friendly, scalable, and a vital part of Grafana Enterprise Traces (GET). Our product, Tempo, empowers users to effortlessly search for traces, generate metrics from spans, and link tracing data with logs and metrics. Our back-end development team works closely with clients and the Grafana Cloud teams to deliver Tempo for both on-premises deployment and large-scale cloud environments.
In our extensive field, we have undertaken various projects, including:
Designing and managing distributed systems to effectively process tracing ingestion and queriesCreating a query language tailored for selecting traces in Tempo, influenced by PromQL and LogQLEnhancing the metrics generator, a component of Tempo that produces metrics from ingested tracesTempo is trusted by leading global organizations for monitoring critical applications and infrastructure. Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with your team to introduce new features, evaluate outcomes, and implement enhancementsLead projects from inception to execution, including ongoing customer supportDesign, develop, operate, and maintain essential systems, ensuring reliability, performance, and availabilityPlay an active role in shaping our roadmap and your own career goalsParticipate in on-call rotations and take ownership of the services you manageSupport and mentor team members, engage in design discussions, and work closely with colleaguesBroaden your skillset by deepening your understanding of our cloud products, comprehending our customers' needs, and familiarizing yourself with our codebaseAs a remote-first organization, we meet regularly via video calls and communicate asynchronously through documentation. An independent mindset and strong communication skills are essential.

Proven experience with at least one programming language. We primarily use Go, but familiarity with Python, C, C++, Rust, or similar languages is beneficial.Experience in delivering projects from requirement gathering, brainstorming, to product delivery in a self-driven manner.Some experience in developing software for the Cloud or systems engineering.Ability to write clean, robust, and efficient software that is easily maintainable by others.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with KubernetesFamiliarity with Grafana and Prometheus in operational roles (including on-call responsibilities or personal projects)Exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems, or a willingness to learnUnderstanding of on-call responsibilities and operations/SRE tasks or the concept of infrastructure as codeIn Spain, the base compensation range for this role is EUR 78,000 - EUR 93,000. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset as assessed during the interview process. Benefits include equity, bonuses (if applicable), and other listed benefits.
