Job Title: Lab Technician

At Instituto De Salud Global De Barcelona (ISGlobal), we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lab Technician to join our dynamic Malaria Physiopathology and Genomics Group.

About the Role

We are looking for a talented individual to contribute to advancing our understanding of malaria epidemiology, focusing on genomic factors. The successful candidate will work closely with our research team, conducting lab-related activities in the context of the "SexMal" project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and optimize parasite in vitro cultures.
  • Perform flow cytometry and cell sorting of fluorescent-labeled cells.
  • Conduct RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, and quantitative real-time PCR (RT-qPCR).
  • Provide training and mentorship to team members on advanced laboratory techniques.
  • Analyze results and integrate findings into research publications.
Requirements
  • Expertise in extracting nucleic acids, including DNA and RNA.
  • Extensive experience in PCR, qPCR, and RT-qPCR techniques.
  • Skills for maintaining Plasmodium in vitro cultures within BSL2 laboratory environments.
  • Hands-on experience with flow cytometry and cell sorting techniques.
  • Fundamental knowledge of R programming for data analysis.
  • Skilled in analyzing scientific data and translating findings into well-structured research papers.
  • Strong ability to collaborate effectively in team-based projects.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively train others in specialized laboratory techniques.
Qualifications
  • Graduate in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biology or similar areas.
  • MSc in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biology or similar area.
Language Skills
  • English (C1).
  • Portuguese knowledge is desirable.
