Job Summary

The US Army National Guard Units is seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Mechanic to join our team. As a Sheet Metal Mechanic, you will be responsible for planning, manufacturing, and installing cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects with easily constructed fastenings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and lay out work to be accomplished in the shop, ensuring efficient and effective completion of tasks.
  • Determine approaches, methods, and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop.
  • Independently determine appropriate maintenance procedures and estimate time, equipment, and material requirements.
  • Devises and maintains plans and records, providing recommendations and input to the supervisor concerning personnel actions.
  • Perform in-process, final inspection, and clear status symbols certifying work performed by others in the shop.
  • Implement safety regulatory requirements, ensuring that other workers in the shop wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions.
  • Prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization, and command support exercises.
  • Perform additional duties such as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment.
Requirements
  • National Guard membership is required.
  • Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership in the military grade listed below.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Military Grades: Enlisted
  • Minimum Grade - PVT (E-1)
  • Maximum Grade - 1SG (E-8)
  • Compatible Military Assignments: Selectee must be a member of the Arkansas Army National Guard.
Additional Requirements
  • Upon selection for this position, individual must possess or initiate a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation.
  • A favorable determination based upon investigative results is mandatory for this position.
  • Failure to meet these requirements will result in termination of employment.
  • A pre-placement physical is required if not already current.
  • Upon selection, must complete mandatory Full-Time Support (FTS) Training at the Professional Education Center (PEC) within six months of assignment (if applicable, training will be coordinated by the supervisor).
  • Individual must meet all military requirements of the position without creating a grade inversion, as determined by the Human Resources Office (HRO).
  • Technicians will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (Grade Inversion).
Qualifications
  • General Experience: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the ability to plan, manufacture, and install cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastenings such as single and double-hem edges and single, double or grooved seams.
  • Specialized Experience: Experience or training in planning, layout, and construction skills to manufacture items and systems with dovetailed seams, set-in-bottom seams, burred-bottom seams, or wired or lock seams.
Additional Information
