About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Principal Engineer to join our team in Madrid. As a key member of our water sector team, you will be responsible for leading the design and analysis of various projects, including transmission pipelines, surge analysis, and hydraulic design of water and wastewater treatment works.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead hydraulic analysis on a range of projects, including transmission pipelines, surge analysis, and hydraulic design of water and wastewater treatment works.
  • Produce and review engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, and reports.
  • Manage design risk to deliver constructable design solutions.
  • Support continuous improvement of procedures and processes to drive efficiency and innovation.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and provide technical guidance and advice on best practice in hydraulic design.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to ensure efficient delivery of projects.
  • Work collaboratively across disciplines to ensure efficient delivery of projects.
  • Engage with best practice and take responsibility for your own professional development.
Requirements
  • Significant technical experience of pressurised and open-channel hydraulics applied to the field of civil engineering.
  • A track record of applying hydraulics theory and best practice into practical applications in the water industry.
  • Proven ability to lead delivery of technical projects, including controlling and reporting on project budgets.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to enter into technical discussions with colleagues, non-technical staff, and clients.
  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional chartered institution, such as ICE or CIWEM.
  • Proficient in English.
Desirable
  • Experience in transmission pipeline design, including route and material selection, hydraulic design, steel pipe wall thickness calculations, and thrust restraint solutions.
  • Experience in CFD applied to the water industry.
  • Experience in supervision of physical scale modelling studies.
