Overview

The Digital Strategy division engages with a range of global customer-focused challenges, collaborating with regional, technical, and functional teams throughout Brambles.

We are seeking a proactive individual to spearhead the establishment and integration of a system of excellence that enables Brambles Digital to accelerate and scale a global testing capability for Tracking Technologies, encompassing both hardware and software.

Your primary focus will be on clarifying commercial pathways and liaising with third-party OEMs (currently under evaluation) to thoroughly explore the potential 'buy vs. build vs. partner' strategies on behalf of Brambles Digital.

You will work closely with our Tracking Technology Lead, leveraging insights gained from other internal teams that have developed our proprietary front-end hardware devices (such as Ultra) and back-end software (BRIX) to foster innovative ideas and establish a comprehensive enterprise capability.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership: Oversee a team responsible for the following:

  • Identify and prioritize key focus areas related to third-party testing (e.g., alternative battery technologies, location mapping services, enhancing device location accuracy, etc.).
  • Develop sandbox environments for extensive testing of third-party tracking technologies.
  • Ensure dedicated resources for Tracking Technology R&D are fully engaged in their tasks.
  • Gather and analyze insights from both internal (Brambles Hardware teams, DCS Customer-facing teams, etc.) and external (industry bodies, external aggregators) sources regarding innovations in the Tracking Technology sector and assess their relevance to our current use cases.
  • Conduct thorough testing activities, ranging from standalone software evaluations to field tests in specialized industrial settings or simulations, in collaboration with external engineering laboratories and dedicated internal resources.
  • Analyze device performance data and feedback from field deployments of Ultras, comparing it with observable data from third-party device testing to provide comprehensive performance comparisons.
  • Develop business cases for 'buy vs. build vs. partner' across various third-party tracking technology solutions and initiate discussions on commercial viability on behalf of Brambles.
  • Collaborate with the Brambles Digital Corporate Development team and Tracking Technology team to map the market and proactively engage potential acquisition targets (hardware or software) for integration into Brambles' strategic roadmap.
  • Formulate an end-to-end integration plan and facilitate the implementation of any third-party technology stack (hardware and software) into Brambles' operational environment.
  • Work with Finance and Procurement teams to ensure Tracking Technology R&D expenditures align with fiscal plans and provide necessary documentation for audits or legal reviews.

Personal Development: Work closely with the Senior Director of Tracking Technology to outline key development areas for existing technology focus in Asset Tracking.

  • Clearly define areas of focus with third parties (new technology stacks) to minimize overlap with ongoing internal development efforts.
  • Contribute to the roadmap for achieving performance criteria for Tracking Technology (both indigenous and third-party enabled) to ensure Brambles meets required KPIs in a scaled deployment context.
  • Implement processes that enhance early concept vetting and maintain ownership of the overall testing roadmap for third-party technologies.
  • Actively contribute as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on innovations in tracking technology to provide Brambles Digital with a competitive edge in this domain.

Subject Matter Expertise: Cultivate and enhance subject matter expertise within the organization in critical areas such as advanced sensors, IoT connectivity technologies, and energy systems.

  • Conduct thorough reviews of results produced by the Tracking Technology R&D team to ensure consistent alignment with third-party R&D program objectives.
  • Develop and maintain detailed specifications, designs, and results from conducted tests.

Collaboration: Partner closely with Brambles Digital product management and development teams for platform and application development that aligns with the third-party testing environment.

Experience Required

  • Over 10 years of experience in developing hardware systems, particularly in the IoT and hardware tracking sectors across various industries.
  • Proven success in testing and facilitating the commercial deployment of third-party developed devices in customer environments.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing and administering portfolio, project, and product management solutions such as OnePlan, JIRA/Confluence, Azure DevOps, etc.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Robust capabilities in both commercial and technical domains focused on IoT.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications: Master's degree in a field relevant to IoT and tracking technology (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics).

Master's degree.
