Job Title: Project Scientist in Astronomy

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Project Scientist to join our team at the European Space Agency. As a Project Scientist, you will play a key role in overseeing the scientific content of our Science Programme and providing scientific expertise to our Science missions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Update ESA Science policies to ensure a rigorous, transparent, fair, and consistent approach across missions.
  • Implement best practice in telescope time allocation and peer review processes.
  • Run the annual Guest Observer call and peer review for an astrophysics mission.
  • Define and initiate the collection of performance metrics associated with all Guest Observer programmes.
  • Coordinate the annual recruitment campaign for the Space Science Research Fellowship Programme.
  • Manage and connect with research fellows to ensure they can effectively implement their research plans.
  • Facilitate the professional development of research fellows.
Requirements:
  • PhD in a relevant domain.
  • Knowledge of the latest developments in open science and/or peer review.
  • Experience in coordinating the scientific community and managing multiple interfaces at international level.
  • Experience in promoting science to the wider scientific community and general public.
