About the Role:

Magnolia Public Schools (MPS) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Instructional Leader to serve as the Dean of Students. This is a full-time position that will report directly to the Principal and will be responsible for providing instructional leadership, supervising students, and overseeing various school programs and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of intervention programs that address the needs of at-risk students.
  • Perform a variety of administrative duties to assist the Principal in managing the school, including assuming the duties of the Principal in their absence.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of designated certificated and/or classified personnel, assign duties to faculty and staff as appropriate to meet school objectives, and assist with the recruiting, interviewing, and selection of new faculty and staff.
  • Develop and administer disciplinary procedures in accordance with district policies and state laws, receive referrals and confer with students, parents, teachers, community agencies, and law enforcement, and respond to and resolve parent, student, and staff concerns and complaints.
  • Supervise students on campus before and after school, monitor students during lunch, recess, passing periods, and other activities, instruct students in appropriate behavior, and discipline students in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Provide direction to a variety of faculty, staff, and student programs and services, participate in formal and informal classroom visitations and observations, and provide recommendations and suggestions for improvement as appropriate.
  • Participate as needed in Individual Educational Plan meetings and Student Study Teams, serve as a liaison to the after-school program in collaboration with school staff and/or personnel from outside agencies, and supervise activities, including evening activities, as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • B.A./B.S. degree
  • Valid California credential authorizing service as an administrator
  • Valid California teaching credential
  • Minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience
  • Energetic and positive approach to responsibilities
  • Drive to attain results; proven experience and effectiveness in improving student achievement in classroom and/or school
  • Has a positive attitude; demonstrates compassion
  • Self-motivated; able to accept criticism and grow as a result
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of school law, finance, and curriculum
  • Ability to manage personnel
  • Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
