Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist/Engineer to join our team at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing data-driven solutions to analyze and mitigate wildfire risk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of data products, including data acquisition, cleaning, and modeling.
  • Analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights related to wildfire risk.
  • Design and deploy predictive models using statistical techniques to forecast wildfire behavior.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate data-driven insights into operational products.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality, scalable machine learning solutions to support wildfire risk analysis.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience:
    • 3+ years of experience in writing clean and maintainable Python code.
    • 3+ years of experience with core Python analytics libraries.
    • Strong problem-solving, mathematical, and statistical skills.
    • Experience applying research-driven solutions to operational products.
    • Programming skills in Python, C/C++, JavaScript, and other languages.
    • Experience developing systems on top of and for Linux environments.
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience:
    • Experience with geospatial earth observation data would be highly valued.
    • Experience with open-source GIS libraries, data formats, and standards would be valued.
    • Experience dealing with danger applied to natural disasters, particularly wildfires.
  • Competences:
    • Ability to work well under ambiguity.
    • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
    • Detail-oriented, thorough, reliable, and able to prioritize tasks.
    • Proficiency in English is a must; good handling of Spanish is required.
Working Conditions
  • The position will be located at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center within the CASE Department.

  • Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration.
