About the Team

The Technical Services team is dedicated to ensuring customer success with MongoDB products. Engaging with and supporting these solutions will expose you to cutting-edge technologies such as Cloud computing, Kubernetes, configuration management tools, and managing instances across various public cloud platforms.

As a MongoDB Technical Services Engineer, you will leverage your outstanding problem-solving abilities and customer service expertise, along with your extensive technical knowledge, to guide clients and resolve intricate MongoDB challenges. You will become proficient in the entire MongoDB ecosystem, including the database server, drivers, cloud services, and infrastructure. This encompasses offerings like Atlas (our Cloud platform) and additional products that integrate with Atlas, such as Search, Data Lake, and Realm serverless functions, triggers, and mobile synchronization. Our engineers blend their MongoDB proficiency with enthusiasm, collaboration, and a positive attitude to empower our customers.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will collaborate with our major clients, addressing their complex issues—answering inquiries related to architecture, performance, recovery, security, and more. You will serve as a knowledgeable resource on best practices for operating MongoDB at scale, regardless of the scale involved. Advocating for customer needs, you will liaise with our product management and development teams on their behalf. Additionally, you will contribute to internal initiatives, including the development of support tools for performance analysis, benchmarking, and diagnostics.

Focusing on the performance of our Cloud platform, Atlas, and its associated services, you will assist both frontend and backend developers in creating next-generation applications on the MongoDB platform.

The Technical Services team emphasizes empowering engineers to share their newly acquired technical insights with colleagues, whether through informal discussions or structured training sessions. By documenting solutions in our knowledge base, Technical Services Engineers enhance the efficiency of our customers and fellow team members across MongoDB.

The ideal candidates will have substantial technical experience in one or more of the following areas. We are open to providing training in specific domains, so do not be concerned about meeting every requirement:

  • Experience with MongoDB or other database solutions (RDBMS or NoSQL)
  • Systems engineering expertise, including Linux performance, memory management, I/O tuning, configuration, security, networking, clustering, and troubleshooting
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts and protocols (DNS, TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, etc.)
  • Storage engineering experience, including NAS, SAN, SSD, multi-pathing, and caching
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure solutions such as AWS, Azure, OpenStack, or Google Compute Engine
  • Experience with Kubernetes or other orchestration systems using vendor-specific Enterprise operators

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with authentication systems such as LDAP, Kerberos, or Active Directory
  • End-user experience with system monitoring, backup, and operations management technologies (including but not limited to Cloud Manager, New Relic, Glacier, HP Operations Manager, IBM Tivoli, Nagios, or Oracle Cloud)
  • Proficiency in coding or scripting in languages such as JavaScript, Python, Bash, Ruby, PHP, Java, C, C++, C#, Go, or Perl
  • General knowledge or experience with automation technologies like Chef or Puppet
  • Multilingual capabilities

Success Metrics

  • Within three months, you will have developed a comprehensive understanding of MongoDB and its ecosystem, completing New Hire Training.
  • Within six months, you will be comfortable working directly with our clients and will have completed the MongoDB Certified DBA Associate exam.
  • Within twelve months, you will work towards gaining expertise to join a technical experts group within the MongoDB ecosystem and assist your fellow engineers with advanced diagnostics. You will also be encouraged to manage technical escalations independently.
