MISSION

Oversee and execute Global Optimization initiatives within the "Short Term Asset Optimization – EU" sector, as part of the Global Energy Management Platform.

This role primarily emphasizes the examination of various energy markets and the formulation of optimization models aimed at enhancing energy sales in the Day Ahead and Intraday Markets. Conduct thorough research and analysis across the multiple markets where EDP operates to devise optimal bidding strategies for energy sales in diverse European markets where EDPR is active.

Additionally, you will be responsible for collaborating and coordinating all IT advancements for the digitalization of models and implementing an intelligent bidding strategy across all markets, including the utilization of Algo-Trading bots.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Evaluate the evolution of different energy markets and maintain a strong grasp of their fundamental principles.
  • Develop optimization and forecasting models to enhance revenue from electricity sales and reduce imbalance costs across various European electricity markets (both theoretical and programming aspects).
  • Analyze current market strategies and recommend updates and improvements based on actual performance.
  • Maintain departmental reporting lines to both internal and external stakeholders through regular and special reports.
  • Define, develop, and refine all necessary tools to ensure an effective market operations strategy:
  • Establish bidding tools essential for executing operations in various markets.
  • Conduct studies for new market opportunities and assist EDPR or other third-party companies with comprehensive market analysis.
  • Ensure the consolidation of all variables required for model execution (GEMOS and internal models).
  • Provide the Market Operations Unit – Front Office with the necessary bidding tools and support them in all market operations activities (including training on existing tools, assistance during incidents, and support in strategic decision-making).
  • Assist other departments by offering services and information related to market operations strategies and performance.

REQUIRED PROFILE

1. REQUIRED ACADEMIC SKILLS:

  • Undergraduate degree required; preferred fields include Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.

2. LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Experience working in English and Spanish.
  • Familiarity with market terminology is advantageous.

3. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Experience in one or more of the following areas: electricity/energy markets, optimization model development, renewable regulations, and finance.

4. IT SKILLS:

The following skills are essential:

  • Proficiency in Excel and other Office applications.
  • Required programming knowledge (R, Python, VBA, Matlab, or similar).
  • Ability to manage databases effectively.
  • Expertise in business analytics tools such as Power BI.

5. KNOWLEDGE:

Must be responsible, organized, analytical, and possess strong problem-solving skills.

6. OTHER:

Experience working independently, in teams, and oriented towards problem-solving. Comfortable working in an international environment across different geographies.
