Job Title: Senior R&D Packaging Engineer

At General Mills, we are committed to driving innovation and growth in the food industry. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior R&D Packaging Engineer to join our team in the Europe & Australia business segment.

About the Role:

This is a key role within our Old El Paso and Green Giant R&D Application Team, responsible for building and advancing consumer-first innovation, holistic margin management, and core growth pipelines for our brands. As a Senior R&D Packaging Engineer, you will be responsible for driving packaging development projects across innovation, core range renovation, sustainability, and margin management to enable our business to win in the marketplace.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Build innovation, HMM, and core growth pipelines for OEP and GG with key cross-functional partners.
  • Packaging team leader for the OEP team, supporting the team on the technical part of the projects and managing technical resources.
  • Manage and lead multiple projects, creating and executing technical plans, risk assessments, and mitigation plans, creating prototypes, managing timelines, and providing effective communication and documentation of work.
  • Collaborate with the factory team for the organization and execution of industrial trials, building a trial report, and communicating conclusions.
  • Build and keep packaging technical specifications up to date.
  • Develop strong relationships and work collaboratively with multiple cross-functional stakeholders, across R&D, Marketing, Sourcing, Supply Chain, and External Partners to deliver winning packaging solutions.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and changes on active projects to business partners and influence decisions informed by deep consumer-, technical-, and business understanding.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in packaging-, mechanical engineering, or relevant engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 6 years of related experience in packaging roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead new packaging ideation, development, and commercialization interfacing with multiple stakeholders.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • Deep technical knowledge of interactions between product, packaging, and equipment and ability to apply scientific and engineering principles to deliver new packaging solutions.
  • Experience with quality and regulatory considerations and practices.
  • Structural Package/Creative design ability preferred.
  • Project management skills.
  • Consumer-First thinking; experience with applying design thinking practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Solid judgement, effective experimentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
