The role focuses on automation and operations, building and leading teams that deliver highly‑available AWS services—including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock—for EU customers.For more information on ESC, see responsibilities will include overseeing the 2025 launch of the ESC, collaborating with global AWS teams, and influencing the evolution of AWS services. You will manage day‑to‑day operations, improve availability, reliability, latency and performance, and participate in on‑call rotations to resolve out‑of‑hours incidents.Eligibility RequirementsFluency in written and spoken English is required.Candidate must be a national of an EU member state and reside in the EU to operate the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union.Employees will participate in an on‑call rota.Basic QualificationsThis role requires you to be a national of an EU member state.Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering working with hardware, software, networking and operating systems.Experience scripting processes in Bash, Python, or Ruby.Solid understanding of Linux and networking, with the ability to troubleshoot and anticipate problems that affect performance, reliability or availability.Ability to lead the creation, revision and improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs) and drive operational best practices.Preferred QualificationsExperience with monitoring frameworks such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic or similar.Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading strategic team efforts across organizations.Experience supporting services in AWS or other cloud environments.Experience operating 24x7 high‑availability, distributed software applications and optimizing fleet utilization.Experience with Infrastructure as Code, e.g., CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible or similar.About the TeamAWS values diverse experiences and encourages applicants who may not meet all preferred qualifications to apply.
