TWO PREDOCTORAL CONTRACTS PhD CHRONOGAL 2025 PS-2025-07
The IAC (Tenerife, Spain) invites applications for Two PhD fellowships in Astrophysics in the framework of the European Research Council Advanced Grant project “Chronology of our Galaxy from Gaia color-magnitude diagram fitting (ChronoGal)” Ref. HORIZON EUROPE ERC-2024-ADG, Grant Agreement number: 101201412, led by Prof. Carme Gallart.
The successful candidates will work towards obtaining their PhD at the IAC/'s headquarters in La Laguna (Tenerife) in a stimulating research environment. They will join the “Galaxy evolution in the Local Group” team, a growing, dynamic and collaborative research group mainly devoted to Galactic Archaeology and Near-field Cosmology, both from the observational (e.g. Gaia, WEAVE, 4MOST, LSST) and theoretical perspective, in collaboration with the “Numerical Astrophysics” research team.
The research topics pursued at the IAC include most areas of Astrophysics: Solar Physics, Planetary Systems, Stellar and Interstellar Physics, Galaxy Formation and Evolution, Milky Way and Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics. These are supported by an ambitious instrumentation programme. The candidates must satisfy the admission requirements by the deadline of this call.
Applicants may prove their eligibility to obtain the corresponding degree by submitting a personal academic certification showing that they have successfully completed the credits required to obtain the degree, along with proof of payment of the corresponding degree issuance fee.
In the case of degrees issued outside of Spain but within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), this certification must be submitted accompanied by a certified translation into Spanish or English.
In the case of degrees issued outside the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), the degree must be accompanied by a certified translation into Spanish or English, as well as its corresponding equivalence certificate or accreditation credential. The accreditation or equivalence of said degree may be accredited by proof of having initiated the corresponding procedure. Any decision by the competent authority denying said application will be grounds for termination of the contract.
The score of the degree must be 7,0 (on a scale of 1 to 10) or higher, and 7,5 for bachelor degrees + Master Degree.
The undergraduate or MSc degree required to register in the ULL PhD Programme must have been obtained on or since January 31, 2022.
Duration: The IAC will offer two contracts that are yearly renewable (up to four years) following the recommendation of the Head of the Graduate Studies Division, on the basis of a positive evaluation of the student’s annual progress report and activity plan by the Graduate Students Division Board of the IAC.
Students obtaining their PhD before the contract is finished, will enjoy a (POP) Postdoctoral Training Period (up to 12 months), with a significant salary increase and which is intended to offer the new doctors a bridge between their studentships and the postdoctoral phase of their careers.
The successful PhD candidates will take up their position at IAC on a date to be determined, after January 1st 2026.
