Systems Engineer/DevOps Eng, Managed Operations

Overview

Systems Engineer/DevOps Eng, Managed Operations – AWS European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) project. We are seeking experienced systems engineers with a strong background in cloud operations to join the AWS Managed Operations team and help deliver high-availability AWS services, including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, exclusively for EU customers.

Responsibilities include leading operational initiatives for ESC, collaborating with global AWS teams, and influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology. The goal is to deliver scalable services and ensure a high-availability experience for EU customers, building a best-in-class development engineering and operations team that aligns with AWS’ commitment to customer satisfaction and continual innovation.

Responsibilities

- Oversee the launch of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) in 2025, working closely with global AWS teams.
- Lead and contribute to the operations and development teams responsible for delivering high-availability AWS services for EU customers.
- Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance day-to-day operations and improve availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of ESC.
- Develop and share scripts or tools to help root-cause analyses and improve operational efficiency.
- Operate within change management processes to implement changes in production systems where appropriate.
- Participate in on-call rotations as required to resolve incidents outside standard business hours.

Eligibility Requirement

- Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
- Candidate must be a national of an EU member state and reside in the EU to operate the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.
- Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union.
- Employees will participate in an on-call rota.

Basic Qualifications

- This role requires you to be a national of an EU member state.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or related IT discipline) or equivalent industry experience.
- Knowledge or experience in scripting (Bash, Python, or Ruby) or software development (Java, TypeScript, or similar), coupled with Linux and networking fundamentals to effectively troubleshoot and optimize system performance and reliability.

Preferred Qualifications

- Ability to execute standard operating procedures and follow operational best practices.
- Knowledge or experience operating services in AWS or other cloud systems or services.
- Knowledge or experience operating 24x7 high-availability, distributed software applications; experience with performance tuning and monitoring frameworks (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic or similar).
- Knowledge or experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar).
