The role is focused on computational stratification of cancers to identify and validate patient groups, interpret and elucidate the biological mechanisms that drive them, and the use of key findings to drive both lab experimentation and early clinical trial designs. Research scenarios involve integration and interpretation of a wide range of molecular and cellular profiling data, including transcriptomic, genomic, single-cell and spatial assay platforms derived from real-world patient cohorts and exploratory clinical trials.
This exciting role offers the opportunity to pursue substantial contributions to scientific knowledge of cancer disease biology and impact directly the delivery of truly transformational and life-changing therapies in key diseases of unmet medical need.
**Responsibilities**
- Build and contribute to collaborations across Translational Medicine and Informatics & Predictive Sciences teams that yield novel stratifiications and elucidate driving biological mechanisms in key oncology indications.
- Work closely with teams across the R&D organization to leverage patient segments for potential combination hypotheses, indication priorization. target identification and priorization.
- Partner with drug discovery teams to leverage key disease insights for identification of therapeutic opportunities and to develop lab-based models and validation scenarios that reflect disease heterogeneity.
- Recruit, retain and develop top talent in the R&D organization by providing professional and personal growth opportunities and mentorship.
- Summarize findings and report conclusions to publishable standard including presentation to both internal and external audiences.
- Contribute to broader research strategies across the Informatics & Predictive Sciences department and BMS Research as required.
**Qualifications**:
- Ph.D. or M.S. with 7+ years of experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, or related fields. Experience in biotech or pharmaceutical industries is a plus.
- Strong experience in the use of a high-level programming language such as R, MATLAB, Python or Perl for complex data analysis and reproducible research practices.
- Strong experience working with Next Generation Sequencing datasets, including Whole-Genome, Whole-Exome Sequencing, RNA-seq and scRNAseq.
- Experience in research and analysis of single-cell and spatial genomics profiling datasets preferable.
- Deep understanding of oncology disease biology and therapeutic landscape.
- Experience of working in contemporary cloud and high-performance computing environments.
- Proven track record of independent research under mínimal supervision. Demonstrable ability to research both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills, rigorous and creative thinking.
- Excellent communication, data presentation, and visualization skills.
- People management skills are essential, including supervision and management of Ph.D. Level scientists.
