**Role Purpose**:

- To maintain and enhance professional development and academic quality in the teaching center, through the management of in-house teacher development programme and support
- To promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English
- To provide learners with a rewarding and stimulating English language learning experience
- To support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission

**About British Council - Spain**

British Council Spain operates a network of teaching centres throughout the country, delivering English teaching to some 30,000 students every year. In addition to teaching students directly, we operate the British Council’s only school, in Madrid, a sizeable exams operation, we offer support in English language learning around the country, and we run strong programmes in arts and education and society.

The majority of our teaching centre students are young learners - either early years, primary or secondary - with a sizeable number of adults.

The Madrid Teaching Centre offers courses to the general public between 8am and 10pm, and there are currently around 100 teachers. We deliver approximately 46500 class hours per year through onsite classes to students between 5 and 85 years old, plus an additional 9500 class hours through partner organisations, such as schools and kindergartens, and to corporate clients including government ministries, banks and higher educational institutions. The content of courses varies widely according to students’ ages and needs, but most classes tend to focus on non-specialised English.

The centre management team consists of the Academic Manager, Coordinators team and Customer Services (Back office and Front office).

**Accountabilities**:
Support British Council’s global English strategy by
- Delivering teaching to the highest standards of English Language Teaching
- Enhancing British Council’s reputation as a world authority in English Language Teaching
- Continuing professional development and sharing of best practices

**Responsibilities**:

- Ensuring teaching meets learner needs and expectations
- Ensuring teaching meets Teaching Quality standards and organisational expectations
- Maintaining good relationships with customers and colleagues
- Supporting the teaching centre’s activities and British Council plans

**Main duties**:

- Plan, prepare and deliver high quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups taking into account individual learning styles. Ensure that lesson materials are tailored appropriately to the needs of particular groups and individuals.
- Monitor and assess progress and provide regular feedback - both written and face to face - to help manage students’ performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy, using the setting and correction of homework for that purpose. Meet individually with parents and students as part of the student’s learning process.
- Complete teaching related administrative tasks (such as prompt completion of class registers, record of classwork, break duties or level testing) to specified standards.
- Contribute to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students’ understanding of contemporary UK
- Support local marketing and promotional strategy, and assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service (placement testing and counselling students towards suitable courses are examples of that).
- Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas:

- Child protection. Ensure all YL students are safe, secure and looked after while they are in our care.
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
- Health and safety

**Qualification**

**Essentials**
- Undergraduate degree (in any descipline)
- Cambridge CELTA and or Trinity cert TESOL

**Desirables**
- Recognised diploma in English as a Foreign Langua
