**About British Council - Spain**

British Council Spain operates a network of teaching centres throughout the country, delivering English teaching to some 30,000 students every year. In addition to teaching students directly, we operate the British Council’s only school, in Madrid, a sizeable exams operation, we offer support in English language learning around the country, and we run strong programmes in arts and education and society.

The majority of our teaching centre students are young learners - either early years, primary or secondary - with a sizeable number of adults.

The Madrid Teaching Centre offers courses to the general public between 8am and 10pm, and there are currently around 100 teachers. We deliver approximately 46500 class hours per year through onsite classes to students between 5 and 85 years old, plus an additional 9500 class hours through partner organisations, such as schools and kindergartens, and to corporate clients including government ministries, banks and higher educational institutions.

**Responsibilities**
- Ensuring teaching meets learner needs and expectations
- Ensuring teaching meets Teaching Quality standards and organisational expectations Supporting the teaching centre’s activities and British Council plans

**Main duties**:

- Plan, prepare and deliver high quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups taking into account individual learning styles. Ensure that lesson materials are tailored appropriately to the needs of particular groups and individuals
- Monitor and assess progress and provide regular feedback - both written and face to face - to help manage students’ performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy, using the setting and correction of homework for that purpose. Meet individually with parents and students as part of the student’s learning process
- Complete teaching related administrative tasks (such as prompt completion of class registers, record of classwork, break duties or level testing) to specified standards
- Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas:

- Child protection. Ensure all YL students are safe, secure and looked after while they are in our care
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
- Health and safety

**Qualification**

**Essential**
- Undergraduate degree (in any descipline) Cambridge CELTA and or Trinity cert TESOL

**Desirable**
- Recognised diploma in English as a Foreign Language e.g.DELTA and or Trinity Diploma

**Work Experience**:
**Essentials**
- 1 years post-certificate i.e. CELTA and or Trinity cert TESOL experience
- Experience in teaching relevant age groups specific to the centre
- Early Years aged 2 to 5 (400+hours)
- Primary aged 6 to 10 (400+ hours)
- Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (800+ hours)
- Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (400+ hours)
- University/Vocational students aged 18 to 25(400+hours) Adults General English 18+ (800+ hours)**Salary & Benefits**
