**Policy Director**

**Location: Macclesfield (UK),Gothenburg (SWE), Barcelona (ESP) or Warsaw (PLN).**

AstraZeneca is investing in data management and analysis capabilities, through its long-term Growth Through Innovation Strategy. The DS&AI team collaborates across R&D to drive innovation through data science and AI. Together we seek to:

- Improve our understanding of disease and uncover new targets
- Transform R&D processes
- Speed up the design and delivery of new medicines for patients

The R&D Data Office, within DS&AI, is a key organisation to deliver upon AstraZeneca’s strategy. Data Office operates a central capability, with R&D wide accountability, to ensure that we harness the power of data to drive innovative science.

Our team will govern data, drive data quality and ensure our data is readied for analytics, crafting paved-paths for scientists to perform data-driven research, without compromising our legal restrictions or ethical principles.

**What you'll do**

You'll be a core member of the Data Policy & Governance Team, working on shaping, implementing and managing a Data policy that balances benefit and risk for responsible use of data and will have the freedom to use your expertise in policy, project management, knowledge of external regulations e.g. GDPR and teamwork to develop strong relations and effective business processes with internal collaborators.

You will be working together with a broad set-of partners, including members in the Data Office but also together with data customers, legal, information security, and corporate risk and compliance offices. You will also be a critical member of the R&D Data Policy Council and contributor to wider R&D Data Policy & Governance strategy.

**What skills, qualifications and experience do you need to succeed?**

To be successful in this role you must have excellent critical thinking skills, the ability to lead dynamic, cross-functional projects, and be able to connect with other colleagues from different experience levels and cultures.

**Typical accountabilities include**:

- Providing strong leadership to promote standard processes in handling policy as part of collaboration and external data sharing initiatives.
- Mentoring and setting clear direction for the team.
- Managing our groundbreaking Policy project across R&D and Enterprise.
- Shaping Policy based on internal and external influences, including writing of policy documentation.
- Defining project requirements from interactions with senior collaborators across R&D functions, to overseeing delivery and relationships.
- Developing novel solutions where off-the-shelf methodologies do not fit.
- Delivering and maintaining practices on sharing clinical information within AstraZeneca and externally.
- Representing AZ externally, promoting AZ position and value proposition in this space. Be an outstanding thought leader in this area, within AZ.

**Education, skills and experience required**:

- Experience of pharma and the life sciences.
- Change Management track record.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong relationships.
- Strong project or programme management skills
- Excellent organisational skills, and ability to juggle different projects/priorities and deliver high quality outcomes under pressure
- Experience of achieving tangible and acknowledged value in a similar position and scale of challenge and opportunity.
