**Job description**:
Within such a context, the Water and Marine Resources Unit is working on the assessment and improvement of multi-mission satellite optical remote sensing data series, the development of the related methods, as well as the definition of the uncertainties associated with the derived products. To achieve these objectives, D.02 needs to handle and process a significant amount of satellite data. Part of the analysis taking place relies on software distributed by space agencies, particularly the US NASA (with the SeaWiFS Data Analysis System, SeaDAS) or ESA, or members of the research community.
The main activity is to provide technical support for developing and servicing a software environment. Handling the ocean colour satellite data record of various JRC missions, with some specific objectives.
**Requirements**:
- Level 6 of the European Qualification Framework which typically corresponds to a bachelor degree of 3 years.
- at least 3 years of specific expertise in IDL programming (min. competence level 4).
- at least 3 years of specific expertise with Linux shell (min. competence level 3).
- at least 2 years of specific expertise in Python (min. competence level 3).
- at least 2 years of specific expertise in C (min. competence level 3).
- Experience on the management, processing and analysis of satellite or geospatial data files.
- Experience in IT microservices appreciated in an IT environment applied to scientific endeavors.
- English verbal and written skills requested for reporting and software documentation.
**Responsabilities**:
- Maintenance of tools to handle and analyze satellite imagery, including SeaDAS (SeaWiFS Data Analysis System).
- Identification, preparation and documentation of the scripts required to run a batch-mode processing of satellite data with appropriate software (relying principally on SeaDAS modules) with particular attention to ancillary data.
- Testing and operating this environment with past and current sensors (including Sentinel-3 missions) and managing the D02 ocean color data archive.
- Developing software codes supporting the quantification of uncertainty budgets for satellite data.
- Contributing to the assessment, comparison and time analysis of satellite data series
through the development of appropriate softwar.
- Supporting the use of radiative transfer codes associated with software tools dedicated tothe development of advanced satellite products.
