As a member of our team **Ample Iberia**, team, you will help solve complex challenges involving electric vehicles, robotics and smart battery technology, by combining creative tech design with fast iteration. The Ample team is small, passionate, highly capable and eager to have like-minded individuals join. If the technology doesn't exist, we're not afraid to envision a path to success and then build it, while always keeping in mind it must be designed for reliability, affordability and easy deployment.

As a **Mechanical Engineer, **you will work on the design of subsystems for the Ample Battery Swapping Station. You will be responsible for quickly taking complex designs from concept, analysis, prototyping to testing. Working closely with our electrical and software teams you will rapidly develop innovative concepts to help us scale our system while improving reliability.

**Responsibilities**:

- Develop solutions to system level concepts from initial brainstorm to production. This will include critical thinking, leading PowerPoint and CAD based design reviews, utilizing hand calculations and FEA to develop functional prototypes
- Conduct product testing, provide assistance to electrical and software engineers to release a production grade system while under an ambitious timeline
- Create, document, and release 3D CAD and 2D GD&T drawings for complex system designs, utilizing knowledge in CNC, sheet metal, additive manufacturing, injection molding, die casting and welding
- Assemble prototypes and rapidly iterate on design, focusing on DFM, cost and ease of assembly
- Design automation components and subsystems for Ample's battery swap stations
- Design structures and architectural elements for Ample's battery swap station
- Design fixtures and assembly aides to improve ergonomics, speed and repeatability

**Requirements**:

- Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics or similar field with** 3-5 years industry experience**:

- Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals including structural & material mechanics, thermal dynamics, engineering kinematics & dynamics and machine design
- Excellent 3D modeling skills and strong FEA analysis skills (Solidworks preferred)
- Proven ability to research and develop complex projects and physically build functional prototypes. (Personal projects are great)
- Design experience with automated or robotic systems, (e.g. motorized systems or complex machines, linear automation)
- Solid understanding of manufacturing methods and design constraints for CNC machining, sheet metal forming, injection molding, welding and additive manufacturing
- Strong electrical fundamentals with good understanding of robotic sensors, control electronics and closed loop feedback mechanisms
- Strong communication, presentation and hands on skills through proven experience
- Enjoys wearing multiple hats, being scrappy, and getting their hands dirty
