PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To support the Head of School and other Senior Leadership Members in the leadership and management of the whole school, in preparation for the leadership and management of the Secondary school in a number of years time.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The role and responsibility of the Deputy Head, Secondary is to support and assist the Head of School with strategic planning and in managing, leading and developing the school. The Deputy Head, Secondary will undertake any professional duties of the Head of School delegated to them by the Head of School and deputise for her/him as and when the need arises. The Deputy Head, Secondary is a member of the School Leadership Team who under the leadership of the Head of School work together to:

- Formulate the aims and objectives of the school;
- Establish policies through which they shall be achieved;
- Manage staff and resources to that end;
- Monitor progress towards their achievement.
- Responsible for the strategic planning and management of the curriculum.
- Enable high levels of achievement in all curriculum areas including leading, managing and supporting Subject Coordinators. Lead in all processes related to students’ academic progress and well-being within the School.
- Lead and manage the collection and analysis of relevant Secondary School data to support teaching and high achievement of students over time.
- Lead the development of high quality student attitudes and behaviours towards learning.
- Lead and manage the options processes for GCSE and A Level, in partnership with SLT.
- Support and contribute to the writing, implementation, evaluation and reviewing of the School Development Plan.
- Provide leadership by coaching, mentoring and motivating staff to build a culture of commitment, high standards and drive for success.
- Be responsible, along with the rest of the School’s senior team, for safeguarding, ensuring policies are updated and exemplifies the best practice.
- Lead and manage CPD within the School; this could include organising/delivering during teacher preparation days.
- Co-ordinate and update relevant policies for all areas of the School.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- First degree from a British University or recognised equivalent and UK qualified teacher status.
- Successful leadership and management experience in a school with Year 7 to Year 13 students
- Native/Proficient level of English
- Experience of managing curriculum provision and timetable construction (or the skill set to learn timetable construction).
- Experience in driving school improvement through monitoring, challenging and supporting the work of middle leaders leadership and team-building skills
- Strong leadership skills, and ability to take responsibility and a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Ability to work hard under pressure, prioritise and meet deadlines.
- A strong understanding of Student Safeguarding and school health and safety processes.
- Energy, vision and enthusiasm to lead the School in the designated areas of responsibility.
- Ability to manage and motivate staff teams to focus on what can be achieved.
- Ability to plan strategically and to be proactive in driving the School forward to achieve exceptional student learning outcomes.

Desirable:

- Experience in successfully leading and managing change at the Assistant Headteacher/Director level.
- Proven strength in the detailed use of analysis, interpretation and understanding of relevant data to support the high achievements of students
- Speaker of Spanish or willing to learn
