**Data Scientist Crop Science**

Realizing Bayer's “Health for All, Hunger for None” vision requires a strong vegetable product design strategy that selects the best and accelerates breeding. We are looking for a passionate imaging AI data scientist to join us on this journey.

This role will work on imaging-based ML/AI model development collaboratively with interdisciplinary scientists, IT and automation engineers across our Vegetable R&D organization and design, develop & deploy quantitative imaging and spectroscopy solutions to accelerate Bayer Vegetable breeding pipelines.
- Independently perform imaging-based analytics, ML/AI model development, computer vision and photogrammetry modeling and related experimental design.
- Contribute to key interdisciplinary data science projects to create novel scientific and business insights by deploying the analytics model framework on a global scale;
- Develop, implement and deploy state-of-the-art ML/AI models and technologies in digital pipelines for key vegetable projects with scientists and engineers across Crop Science R&D.
- Build cross-functional relationships to collaboratively partner with the business and effectively network within the Bayer Crop Science R&D organization.
- Communicate the imaging-related model development requirements/timelines with other teams and update the key stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Follows best practices for model development, code version control, and documentation process.
- Providing technical contributions in a fast-paced team environment to accelerate our efforts on building an analytics-driven product pipeline.
- Using advanced mathematical models, machine learning algorithms, operations research techniques, and strong business acumen to deliver insight, recommendations, and solutions.

Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following required qualifications:

- Bachelors degree with 5+ years of experience or Masters degree with 2+ years experience or PhD.
- Educational preparation or applied experience in at least one of the following areas: Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Imaging Science, Computer Vision, Photogrammetry
- Advanced competencies in image processing, computer vision, color spaces, and photogrammetric modeling.
- Solid understanding of machine learning and neural network algorithms and advanced statistics including regression, time-series forecasting, clustering, decision tress, exploratory data analysis methods, simulation, optimization.
- Proficiency in applied programming and/or manipulation of data with a programing language such as Python, R, and SQL.
- Advanced experience in Amazon Web Services or other cloud platforms.
- Advanced competencies in DevOps and MLOps principles and tool stack (e.g., CI/CD, Docker, Airflow, etc.).
- Advanced knowledge on deep learning frameworks, such as Pytorch, Tensorflow or MXNET.
- Sufficient experience on transfer learning and making ML models work with limited data
- Experience in 3D point clouds and modern methods for 3D point clouds classification, detection, and segmentation
- Excellent understanding with coding best practices, version control and documentation.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing environments and ambiguous situations.
- Visionary mindset and ability to think and act strategically, combined with execution orientation.
- High ability to solve problems and to structure and simplify complex tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute in an international and dynamic research and development team;
