Biotech Breeder

Are you the link between breeders and researchers? To reinforce the validation and implementation of strategic traits in the Cucurbits Breeding department we are looking for a Biotech Breeder Cucurbits._

What are you going to do

You support the Cucurbits Breeding team with research projects of strategic traits. You are responsible for the development of pre-breeding material/tools that provides our Cucurbits breeders with high-quality breeding material.

Thanks to your excellent planning and communication skills; you plan, design and execute various multidisciplinary projects while connecting with our Cucurbits Breeders worldwide. The breeding team gets help from research projects aimed at delivering tools to the breeders to make efficient selections. The role of the biotech breeders, as a bridge between research and breeding is crucial for these projects.

You play a central role in the process: from the molecular data, generated by the researchers in the lab, via the phenotyping in the field or greenhouse to the (complex) data analysis and back.

You are part of the Cucurbits Breeding department, consisting of experienced breeders. The common goal is an innovative and high-quality range of Cucurbits varieties for our customers. You will work closely together with colleagues of other departments, ranging from Biotech Breeders of different crops to Molecular and Phytopathology Researchers and colleagues from Data Lab and Crop Workers in the greenhouse.

You report to the Manager Biotech Breeding.

Thanks to your excellent communication skills, you connect easily with people on multiple levels and take a position based on relevant arguments for improvements in the process chain. You have experience with project management involving different parties.

Due to the international character/nature of the team, this position will be based in Spain (Almeria). Travelling abroad (2-3 times a year) will be part of the job.

In short, you:
- have a MSc degree (for example in Plant Science, Breeding or Biotechnology) and 3 to 5 years relevant working experience or a PhD degree;- have knowledge in the field of genetics/plant breeding, biotechnology, molecular biology and markers, preferably with experience in breeding;- have excellent analytical skills and experience with working with large datasets (experience R is a plus);- have excellent planning skills with a strong sense of urgency to meet deadlines and get things done;- have good communication skills in English, proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
