The Mohs Histotechnician is responsible for assisting the Mohs surgeon during the grossing of specimens; process, embed, cut and stain tissue specimens. In addition, the Histotechnician is responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment and cleanliness of the laboratory area.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**: To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of technical aspects in the areas of histology, laboratory techniques and quality control.
- Demonstrates ability to embed, cut, stain, and mount tissue specimens following established policies and procedures and laboratory standards.
- Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with superiors, peers, physicians and patients.
- Strong organizational and computer skills.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**Education**:

- An earned associate degree in a chemical or biological science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution.
- 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution. This education must include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses OR 24 semester hours of science courses that includes 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology and 12 hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination.

**Experience**:
Minimum or 1 year working experience with Mohs

**Certifications & Licenses**:

- Histotechnologist (HTL, ASCP) or Histotechnician (HT, ASCP) certification
- Technology Applications: Proficient in Microsoft Applications

**WORK ENVIRONMENT AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS**:

- Laboratory work environment with exposure to various chemicals and equipment.
- Prolonged sitting, frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Safety equipment and personal protective equipment provided and required. Requires normal range of hearing and manual dexterity enough to operate office and laboratory equipment.
- Noise level in the work environment is typical for an office and/or medical clinic environment.
- Minimum travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air.
