**Senior Principal Engineer**

**Position Overview**:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong technical engineering background and relevant experience to join the Vegetable R&D Analytics and Pipeline Design team as a Senior Principal Engineer.

The primary responsibilities of the role are to manage crucial partnerships, provide technical expertise in identifying, evaluating, and driving multi cloud and open source-based data and insight platforms and systems as well as developing and exercising robust project control of key projects in the Vegetable.

R&D portfolio. This involves collaborating with a diverse group of global cross-functional scientists,engineers, developers, breeders, and IT teams

**YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Define strategies and engineering guidelines for adopting enterprise data platforms and cloud systems (i.e. data streaming, notifications, others)
- Implement efficient data access control mechanisms to different raw data sources both on premises and cloud environment
- Identify, design, and implement internal process for the improvement of automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, and re
- designing infrastructure for greater scalability and execution;
- Design, plan, build, and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture
- Support the integration with existing and new enterprise data analytics solutions
- Participate in data warehouse by continuously improving ELT and ETL processes for the data lakes and data warehouses
- Support software architecture decisions by writing, maintaining, and reviewing software code and ensures the code quality by automated testing
- Follow Bayer and industry best practices
- Architect, build and manage a robust, scalable, data pipelines in a hybrid cloud environment that provides data processing capabilities to meet functional /non-functional business requirements;
- Support the development of continuous integration and continuous deployment processes and infrastructure
- Assemble large, complex data sets (e.g. text, time series, imagery) into a useful format for analysis using fit for purpose data and insights driven technologies
- Mentor engineering staff within platform in technical development, including best practices and standards for software development
- Improve scrum team maturity and effectiveness by providing guidance and leadership in the scrum ceremonies and in backlog refinement
- Creates intellectual property and adheres to company procedures for intellectual property protection

**WHO YOU ARE**

**Education/Experience**
- Bachelor degree in computer science, management information systems, or a related discipline
- Experience in designing, planning, and building data pipelines
- Deep experience working in the Agile Scrum methodology along with the ability to coach team members on Scrum practices and work with stakeholders to promote understanding and achieve alignment

**Skills (Technical & Soft)**
- Deep experience with object-oriented languages (e.g., Python) and with SQL including dialects like T SQL and PSQ
- Ability to manage the implementation and maintenance of data pipelines along with a deep knowledge of data pipeline and workflow management tools
- Experience with management of SQL and NoSQL databases, including distributed databases (e.g., Aurora), and object stores (e.g., S3), and data warehousing techniques
- Ability to design data models that align with business requirements and ensure efficient and easy access
- Experience integrating data from different sources, formats, and systems while ensuring data quality standards through cleaning, profiling, and anomaly detection
- Proven experience managing cloud services along with a deep understanding of cloud architecture including monitoring, logging, and alerting (e.g., CloudWatch)
- Expertise with version control systems (e.g., GitHub) and deployment methodologies (e.g., Blue/Green)
- Expertise in developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines across multiple environments including automation tools (e.g., Terraform)
- Understanding of data security and privacy, network security, enterprise security, cloud security, database security
- Demonstrated conflict management skills to challenge and convince the various stakeholders involved in any project
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
