**The Position**:
The Agile Product Owner represents the “voice of the customer” at the team level, maintaining and prioritizing the Product Backlog, to ensure that the team is working on stories that maximize business value and deliver necessary functionality, enhancements, and fixes to improve customer experience, user experience and operational efficiencies.

As a trusted partner for all stakeholders throughout the change journey, the Agile Product Owner provides transparent, effective communication, thought leadership and technical expertise from request to delivery. Recognised internally as “the go-to person” for the most complex assignments.

Position Responsibilities
- Serves as the customer proxy by understanding key business objectives and strategy of the product
- Works with business owners and/or senior business leaders cross functional to ensure that they are engaged and supportive of direction
- Works with Product Management and Stakeholders to define and prioritize the Product Backlog (refinement)
- Assesses business value and prioritize all stories to ensure work focuses on those with maximum value that align with product strategy
- Communicates the product roadmap clearly and inspires the team by sharing vision
- Creates User Stories and Acceptance Criteria, ensuring stories clearly communicate customer/Stakeholder needs to the development team; work with team to clarify stories as necessary
- Responsible for final decisions on product functionality
- Participates in and prepares for Program Increment Planning
- Accepts User Stories
- Participates in team demo, retro, and Inspect and Adapt
- Understands and supports enabler work
- Understands and supports inter-team dependencies, and escalate issues when necessary
- Identifies/monitors potential risks and develop mitigation plans
- Solves product related problems & complete trade-off analysis to deliver against commitments
- Engaged throughout change cycle ensuring business readiness through to release
- Agrees with other PO from outset who owns and leads the business readiness activities for small - medium enhancements that span across multiple POs and business areas (i.e., UAT, training, comms.)
- Collaborates with scrum master and team to promote an environment of empowerment and creativity
- Ensures connectivity and alignment is in place with other POs before Product Owner sync and/ or Scrum of Scrum
- Supports larger projects or programmes of work approved by SLT - collaborates closely with Delivery lead (i.e., PM or Programme Manager)
- Ensures SLT priorities (larger change) are considered in the backlog when prioritising small enhancements
- Capability to manage workstream(s) as part of larger programmes
- Reporting and Governance - updated status reporting and benefits documented on a regular basis

Skills and Experience
The Agile Product Owner must be able to demonstrate strong experience in the following areas:

- Ability to shape a product vision and roadmap in collaboration with stakeholders
- Strong understanding of customer needs and business strategy
- Demonstrates technology knowledge at an adequate level to contribute effectively to technical related discussions
- Support the Architectural Runway with agreed business and technical priorities to get more “benefit” from investments
- Ability to manage the product backlog including writing user stories and acceptance criteria
- Ability to balance business priorities and support technical priorities within defined guardrails (i.e., Growth, Compliance etc)
- Ability to use analysis to prioritize business value and maximize total business outcome.
- Advance Story writing should include accounting for all testing and readiness activities to get the iteration outcomes into production
- Demonstrates good understanding of gathering feedback (i.e., multi-variate testing, focus groups)
- Managing and reporting on the value delivery by the team ensuring delivery of highest customer value product increments
- Experience working with Senior Stakeholders - presenting, solving “conflicting priorities” and facilitation of “trade off call” decisions including preparing decisions papers is a must
