Description

IMDEA Materials Institute has an opening for a PhD position on intercalated bundle metamaterials.

This project will develop a new class of metamaterials, based on macroscopic fibres of intercalation compounds consisting of uniaxial crystals of nested lattices of one-dimensional nanoparticles. The first goal is to synthesise novel metamaterial conformations by changing the chemistry of the host and guest lattices, realized as continuous macroscopic fibre structures. The second goal is to study the crystal and electronic structures of the fibre metamaterials. We aim to elucidate their long-range order in the longitudinal and transverse directions, and to determine the energy spectrum of the resulting ensemble. The final goal is to unveil emerging optoelectronic properties of these metamaterial fibres.

**Requirements**:

- Master’s degree in materials science, physics, inorganic chemistry or a related discipline
- Scientific vocation and strong interest in experimental work are essential.
- Command of written and spoken English is a prerequisite.

Conditions

The position includes a full-time, three-year contract with social security coverage.

The expected start date is no later than November 2023.

The working language of the Institute is English. Full command of the English language is required in all positions.
