**Liver Diseases Research Unit**
VHIR offers vacancy/vacant position for a Pre-doctoral student to develop his/her PhD Thesis in the study of hepatitis D virus
(HDV) quasispecies diversity (focused on clinical and virological implications of its variability, complexity and main variants)
within the Liver Disease Research Unit. More information can be found here:
**JOB DESCRIPTION**
**Education and qualifications**:
**Required: -**
Degree or Grade in biological sciences.
- Master’s degree in clinical research, focused on clinical microbiology.
- Enrolled or accepted in a doctoral program in medicine/molecular biology.
**Experience and knowledge**:

Experience in molecular biology techniques: nucleic acid extraction, PCR, RT-real-time quantitative PCR, Sanger sequencing...
- Documented experience in the use of the next-generation sequencing applied to the study of HDV quasispecies.
**Desired: -**
Previous publications demonstrating experience in the study of the Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and HDV quasispecies will be
specially valued. This experience will be evaluated by having (communications in congresses or articles published in indexed
journals) on the study of HBV and HDV quasispecies that must be cited in the applicant’s CV.
**Main responsibilities and duties**:
Virological studies of HDV quasispecies:
- Nucleic acid extraction and creation of amplicon libraries by PCR amplification. Sequencing by the Sanger method and next-generation sequencing and analysis of the raw data obtained.
Support in a study of new biomarkers of HBV and HDV infection:
- Quantitative and qualitative serological techniques of HBV surface and core-related antigens.
- Quantitative / qualitative determination of HBV and HDV-RNA.
**Labour conditions**:
- Full-time position (40h/week).
- Starting date: 19th July 2019.
- Length of the contract: 1 year.
- Gross annual salary: 21.661,96
