Climate change is causing deep uncertainty at all levels of society, with climate volatility reducing the security of all land-based assets and posing a multi-level security threat for the functioning of enterprises, societies, and governments.

Mitiga is a spinoff of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, which hosts MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe.

Mitiga's mission is firmly rooted in employing cutting-edge science and technology to mitigate the multifaceted risks posed by climate-driven perils. Our approach spans a spectrum of temporal scales, from real-time and annual forecasts to projections spanning the next century. This comprehensive perspective on risk, coupled with our capacity to transfer risks to capital markets via catastrophe bonds, positions us to significantly contribute to enhanced climate mitigation, resilience, and equity.

**Who you are**

Combat wildfires with cutting-edge science We seek a Senior CAT Modeler Wildfire to lead the development of risk assessment tools for the (re)insurance industry. Leverage your PhD in a relevant field, strong statistics background, and 6+ years of experience to collaborate with atmospheric and climate experts. Your work will directly influence how we anticipate, mitigate, and respond to wildfires.

**Your Experience & Impact**
- Go-to Expertise in Wildfire Science_: Serve as the primary resource for all aspects related to wildfire science, offering comprehensive insight into fire behavior, ecology, and the influence of climate and atmospheric drivers on wildfire hazard and risk.
- Support Methodology Development:_ Provide valuable expertise in defining scientific and technical methodologies by addressing limitations and exploring advancements in wildfire science. Contribute insights into fire behavior, ecology, and the impact of climate and atmospheric conditions to refine risk assessment methodologies.
- Bridge between Disciplines:_ Act as a liaison between wildfire science and atmospheric + climate experts, facilitating communication and collaboration to ensure a holistic understanding of wildfire dynamics. Foster interdisciplinary cooperation to enhance wildfire risk assessment and management strategies.

Your role as a Senior CAT Modeler Wildfire will be critical in driving innovation and resilience in the face of evolving wildfire challenges within the (re)insurance industry.

**Requirements**:
**Qualifications**
- PhD in Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field
- Minimum 6 years of post-doctoral experience
- Deep knowledge of wildfire science
- Strong statistical proficiency
- Experience in catastrophe modeling (a plus)
- Excellent collaboration skills
