- The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large-scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 900 staff from 55 countries.

**Context And Mission**
- S2S4E is a H2020 research project, aiming to offer an innovative service to improve Renewable Energies (RE) variability management by developing new research methods exploring the frontiers of weather conditions for future weeks and months. The main output of S2S4E will be a user co-designed Decision Support Tool (DST) that for the first time integrates sub-seasonal to seasonal (S2S) climate predictions with RE production and electricity demand.-
**Key Duties**
- Join the team in charge of developing the tool
- Maintain the operational deployment on different HPC platforms(if needed)
- Participate in the data management of the operational forecast system
- Support the users inside and outside the center by adding new features
- Participate actively in the extension of the Decision Support tool
- Explore solutions to integrate seasonal predictions in an operational real-time forecast system
- Interact with Computational Earth Sciences scientists to improve the performance and reliability of the system. This includes communication with HPC user support at BSC.
- Interact with climate scientists to understand processes and model configuration.

**Requirements**:

- Education
- Having a Bachelor in Computer Science, Physics or related discipline.
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Good development skills in python and experience with UNIX/LINUX environments and scripting languages (bash,) will be valued
- Good experience with object-oriented programming
- Experience on Web Interfaces or interactive Dashboards will be valued
- Experience in Earth System models will be appreciated
- Experience in Earth Sciences file types (NetCDF, GRIB, HDF ), tools (CDO, NCO ) and managing large volumes of data will be appreciated
- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Previous experience in a scientific area related to the research position will be appreciated
- Competences
- Capacity to interact and build strong relations with both earth and computer scientists(internal and external)
- Proactive attitude and motivation to improve already existing solutions
- Fluency in English
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize and work under set deadlines and pressure
- Ability to work both independently and within a team
- Motivation to work in an international and interdisciplinary working environment

**Conditions**
- The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department
- We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
- Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
- Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
- Starting date: 01/09/2018
