Doctoral Position

The position proposed is that of a doctoral student for a period of three years under a contract with the Framatome company.

The thesis will be carried out to a large extend within the laboratory LTDS, mainly at the Ecole Centrale Lyon - ENISE (city of Saint-Etienne) with occasional travel to FRAMATOME sites. This PhD work contains also a close collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering of Mondragon Unibertsitatea (Spain) with some period in Mondragon.
- Implementation of a scientific test protocol on an instrumented bench in the laboratory: cutting with a complex elementary edge, observation with a fast and thermal camera, force measurement with a 3-axis dynamometer.
- Understanding of the thermomechanical mechanisms of high speed cutting: influential cutting parameters, shear stresses induced in primary and secondary zones, viscoplastic material flow and thermal distortion.
- Prediction of material integrity in trifoliate configuration: Numerical simulation of stresses applied in tertiary shear zone, surface condition and bi-directional residual stress.
- Active participation in the scientific community: conference, publication and networking.
- Experimental qualification of the new process on a single-spindle, scale 1 industrial equipment: instrumentation and monitoring of the process, piloting of experimental plans, taking samples for laboratory analysis, taking into account tool wear and vibration impacts.
- Definition of new requirements for the industrial deployment of the technology on a highcapacity multispindle equipment: technology watch, pre-sizing and qualification protocol.
- Development of new tools: scientific support and advice to European cutting tool

manufacturers.
- Nowadays, production will demand even more performance and reliability.

- Joint PhD Between Mondragon Unibertsitatea and ENISE-ECL
- The student will be placed mainly in Saint-Etienne with some period by Framatome in Chalons sur Saone and some period in Mondragon.
