- We are particularly interested in this role in the strengths and lived experiences of women and underrepresented groups to help us avoid perpetuating biases and oversights in science and IT research.
- We are looking for Junior Scientist with 2+ years of applied research, data management, harmonization, real-time data processing, and GIS coupled with 1+ years of experience and/or software development applied to wildfire risk and danger, who are quick and willing learners, and who are not afraid to get involved and form part of this close-knit team.**Key Duties**
- Support Senior Researchers and Team Leads in securing grants and public funding for supporting research line sustainability.
- Help guide the team's research and development efforts towards successful project delivery.
- Collaborate with other scientists and software developers, business analysts and software architects to plan, design, develop, test, and maintain software products and services.
- Maintain high standards of product quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits.
- Adhere to high-quality development principles while delivering solutions on time and on-budget.
- Implement quality assessment methods for the research and service workflows.

**Requirements**:

- Education
- PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field required. Close-to-defense PhD is also valued.
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Proven experience in different research fields preferably dealing with Natural Disasters.
- Used to deal with multidisciplinary. For instance, dealing from ML to meteorology passing by GIS
- 2+ years of hands-on dealing with open-source GIS libraries, data formats and standards.
- 1+ years of hands-on with data and formats used in Numerical Weather Prediction.
- Programming skills (Python, C/C++, Javascript, and others). Must be able to find the "right tool" for the job.
- Experience dealing with danger applied to natural disasters, better used to wildfires.
- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Experience with geospatial (e.g. earth observation) data would be highly valued.
- Experience with open-source GIS libraries, data formats and standards would be valued.
- Experience dealing with danger applied to natural disasters, better used to wildfires would be greatly valued.

- Deals well with ambiguity.
- Approaches the job with a focus on providing excellent research focused on applied science.
- Ability to take ownership of and work independently to manage projects through to completion.
- Very strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Detail orientation, thoroughness, reliability, and ability to prioritize are required.
- Proficiency in English is a must. Good handling of Spanish is required.
