The Agricultural Assistant (mid-level) is responsible for representing the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) in Spain and Portugal. Responsibilities include assisting the Agricultural Attaché in implementing USDA programs or projects, managing budgets for activities, identifying and resolving trade problems, and performing administrative tasks. The incumbent maintains professional and social relationships (working to mid-levels) with technical and policy level government officials, industry representatives, and research institutions to exchange information and gain cooperation on substantive agricultural matters.
**EXPERIENCE**: Minimum three years of experience in administrative work, program management, and/or budget management is required.
**JOB KNOWLEDGE**: Good working knowledge of U.S. agricultural policies and programs, as well as knowledge of office procedures, administration and accounting principles. Good working knowledge of agricultural practices, market conditions, and government policies in the host country.
**LANGUAGE**: Fluent level of English speaking/reading/writing. Fluent level of Spanish speaking/reading/writing. This may be tested.
