**This is what you will do**:
The Head of International Government Affairs, Alexion is a key member of the Corporate Affairs leadership team, with direct line management responsibility. It is a visible role both internally and externally, focused on creating government affairs strategy, executing global policy strategy rare disease, while creating opportunities for prioritization of rare disease across Alexion’s International markets.

The Head of International Government Affairs will also lead a regional team focused on amplifying business priorities will work with external stakeholders to understand market dynamics such as the rare disease patient journey, the unmet needs for this population, the policy landscape, and the competition emerging in certain disease states. The Head of International Government Affairs must be a strong people leader able to energize, empower, collaborate, and provide clear and compelling leadership.

**You will be responsible for**:

- Bring the “outside perspective into the company” and ensure the global team as well as business partners understand the perspective of the rare disease patient, community, and critical external stakeholders
- Understand the priorities of the business and working closely with the global brand teams (across functions) to align GA tactics with the brand strategy and provide GA support and expertise where relevant
- Collaborate to leverage resources and expertise across the matrix to align and champion “one Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease voice”
- Work closely with the Head, International Communications to shape messaging and rare disease awareness initiatives and expand established campaigns to reach the broader general public at the global, regional and country levels
- Ensure internal policy development, alignment, and prioritization with cross functional teams (Compliance, Regulatory, Communications, Head of Operations, Marketing and Medical teams) to enable efficient and compliant working practice for all engaged in Government Affairs and Policy Activities
- Direct strategy discussions and communications efforts with key government officials relating to legislation, regulation, pricing/reimbursement, and other policy initiatives
- Develop policy positions and government affairs strategies aimed at delivering a favorable business environment and maximizing access for rare disease patients to our portfolio
- Understand the implications our rare disease portfolio will have on the wider healthcare environment and the impact the changing healthcare environment will have on our portfolio
- In conjunction with the international market access team, monitor and respond to health care reforms & measures impacting orphan drugs in terms of access & pricing, anticipate and assess the consequences in terms of challenges & opportunities, and provide continuous development and training to those involved in these activities on behalf of Alexion in prioritized international markets
- In partnership with market access and the global policy team, participate in engagement with governments, payers, HTA bodies, trade associations, think tanks and other stakeholders on rare disease policy issues in prioritized international markets
- Conduct briefings, meetings, forums and technical updates for legislators and regulators and their staffs on issues of concern to Alexion
- Oversee/Respond to public consultations on behalf of the business to articulate policy positions
- Work collaboratively with external stakeholders to develop common rare disease policy positions, including through industry associations, working groups and other third parties
- Build coalitions of support with third party organizations to deliver multi-stakeholder government affairs campaigns
- Understand Alexion’s pipeline development milestones and develop short and long-term strategies to align to business priorities
- Assure the quality and integrity of the team’s work and decisions

**You will need to have**:

- Demonstrate strong dexterity influencing senior stakeholders, operational sensitivity, partnering, leading, being a team player, skilled in collaboration, and the ability to work with ease cross-functionally within a highly matrixed environment
- Previous experience partnering with Commercial, Medical, Market Access, Policy/External Affairs and/or Communications cross-functional teams
