The Head of Europe Medical Affairs will be the executive responsible for all field-based medical affairs activities across the entire company portfolio and several countries comprising a business region. This role directly leads several medical affairs regional teams as well as other enabling staff. The role reports to the International Head of Medical Affairs.

This role is responsible for significant business impact activities including continued collection of clinical data to support the entire product portfolio, high scientific presence at major customer-facing congresses, medical education activities, and scientific support of all key customers across the region. In addition, the role is responsible for effective customer-facing communication and dissemination of scientific materials across the entire region. Further, the role is directly responsible for business performance elements of the regional executive leadership team such as share of voice and competitive clinical evidence generation. The role is also a member of the region's business leadership team as the medical affairs representative.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Planning, and executing clinical trials/research and data collection activities;- Contributing to implementation of clinical protocols and facilitating completion of final reports;- Recruiting clinical investigators and negotiating study design and costs;- Directing human clinical trials, phases III and IV, for company products under development;- Participating in adverse event reporting and safety responsibilities monitoring;- Coordinating and providing reporting information for reports submitted to regulatory agencies;- Monitoring adherence to protocols and determining study completion;- Coordinating and overseeing investigator initiations and group studies;- Serving as a medical consultant to marketing, commercial or research project teams, and government regulatory agencies;- Signing off on product safety reviews.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Maintain in-depth functional clinical knowledge of the entire Alcon portfolio;- Develop complex key-opinion-leader mapping and development strategy and execution plan;- Lead Alcon's share of voice and podium presence at key scientific meetings across several countries;- Lead Clinical intelligence operations across multiple congresses and scientific meetings;

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- 12 years minimum relevant years of experience:
- Ten years of experience in a combination of academic or industry experience in medical affairs;- Two years clinical care experience is a benefit;- Minimum Education - M.D.;- Preferred Education - Advanced Degree;- Five years of people management experience.- Ensure close alignment between global franchise and regional business priorities in context of scientific customer interactions;- Lead customer-generated clinical data gathering and customer research support activities across multiple countries;- Responsible for operational objectives and medium term planning;- Internal and/or external influencing of key stakeholders to achieve scientific objectives aligned with business objectives;-
- Lead and manage a team of regional medical science liaisons or field medical associates across multiple countries;- Development and execution of Medical Affairs activities per plan, on budget and in compliance with laws and regulations;- Quality and quantity of customer-based clinical data generation;- Podium presence metrics;- Quality of Medical Affairs project execution and cross-functional coordination;- Performs other duties as assigned;- Complies with all policies and standards.
