**Plant Pathologist II**
**Main purpose**:
Technical leadership to lead plant disease characterization, pathology design testing, assay development, data interpretation to support vegetable product design, development and launch
Leads proof of concept experiments on plant disease and disease resistance while partnering with functions across the Bayer business to deliver disruptive innovation
**Key tasks & responsabilities**:
Designs, conducts & interprets complex experiments on bioassay development on disease traits of commercial importance in cross-functional setting.
Coordinates disease testing data collection in non-controlled environment across organization and develops SOP for data collection and validation.
Establishes disease package testing strategy including both high throughput phenotyping and trait genetics
Identifies and implements process improvements. Optimizes workflows and validates methods
May assume project leadership and/or supervisory functions in pathology design testing field.
Demonstrates knowledge of specialized scientific techniques. Takes initiative in keeping current literature in areas of disease traits and pathogens/pests acting as content experts and applying
novel technologies as necessary to advance project objectives
Interacts and works closely with pathology testing operations teams to solve problems in the implementation of new disease bioassays

Geographic scope: Global, all crops
**Key working relations**:
Vegetable R&D Leads, Scientists and Research Associates in Technology Delivery, Pathology testing Operations, Breeding and Testing, Analytics and Pipeline Design and other functions
Global/Regional Leads and Scientists in Crop Science teams (such as row crop Breeding, Biotech, Small Molecules, Biologicals, Product Supply, and Commercial) with emphasis on plant
pathology, disease testing, or product commercialization.
Product Supply, Veg Commercial teams
Industry, academic and governmental partners or collaborators
**Qualifications & Competencies**:
PhD in plant pathology with 3 years relevant experience or related field or MS with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or BS with minimum 7 years relevant experience
Disease technical know-how coupled with operational acumen
Proven ability to lead change, influence and lead diverse teams at all levels
Demonstrated ability to think creatively, envision solutions, drive strategy and lead continuous improvement
Outstanding analytical and communication skills
Strong initiative and results orientation
