It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 1000 staff from 60 countries.We are particularly interested in the strengths and lived experiences of women and underrepresented groups to help us avoid perpetuating biases and oversights in science and IT research. Research activities will be focused on one or several of the following topics, among others:Virtual memory management: Acceleration of virtual to physical address translation, hardware support for OS, management of irregular workloads.High-performance computing architectures: Acceleration of floating-point intensive workloads via reconfigurable or vector processors.Cache management policies for graph and strongly irregular workloads.Numerical libraries for scientific computing with focus on long vector architectures.Experience in some of these topics is strongly appreciated.The funding for these actions/fellowships comes from the European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility - Next Generation.Key DutiesFormulate and evaluate new ideas in a rigorous wayWrite technical reports and papersUse and extend scientific code (Tensorflow, simulators, parallel runtime systems, etc.)RequirementsEducation: Master in Computer Science or close areaEssential Knowledge and Professional Experience:Computer Architecture: micro-architecture, instruction-set architecture, cache hierarchy, simulation techniquesArtificial Intelligence: rule-based reasoning, decision trees, support vector machines, neural networksProgramming: C/C++, OpenMP/MPI, CUDA, etc.Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience:Performance Analysis and Tuning of parallel applicationsOperating Systems: Linux, scripting, OS schedulerCompetences:Ability to take initiative and prioritizeAbility to work independently and in a teamCapacity to interact and build strong relations with other research groupsExcellent written and verbal communication skills in EnglishConditionsThe position will be located at BSC within the Computer Sciences DepartmentWe offer a full-time contract (37
