Reporting to the Manager, Software Development, you will be a member of a highly agile team tasked with developing new functionality, as well as maintaining and supporting the existing, publicly available product. This team builds and maintains a high-performance data analytics pipeline in Amazon Web Services. The ideal candidate must be self-directed and a fast learner, flexible enough to work on new technologies as well as legacy components.Responsibilities and DutiesWork closely with our frontend teams to build value-driven features for educatorsBuilding, deploying, and maintaining a data analytics pipeline in AWSBuild reusable code and libraries for future useOptimization of the services for maximum speed and scalabilityImplementation of security and data protectionDesign and implement new functionality in our web servicesApply test-driven development practices including writing and maintaining unit testsWork closely with our test team to ensure automated testing has appropriate coverageEvaluate and choose new technologies and libraries to incorporate into our productsParticipation in the full Agile software lifecycleWrite and maintain technical documentationResolve outages, field escalations, troubleshoot and fix technical bugsRun performance benchmarking testsOther duties as requiredCore Skills5 or more years of programming experience based on a solid foundation in computer science, particularly data structures, concurrent programming, distributed services, databases, etc.Experience working with Python for interaction with AWS services and data analysis (e.G. boto3, numpy, pandas, PySpark)Experience with AWS serverless architectures, such as Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, Step Functions, and Glue (Apache Spark) founded on infrastructure as code principles (Terraform)Understanding test-driven development practices including writing and maintaining unit testsExperience with developing software using Agile software developmentBuilding and deploying applications to AWSExperience releasing software using a continuous deployment pipelineAbility to take initiative and propose solutionsEnjoys working on a geographically distributed teamPreferred experience developing/architecting highly available servicesPreferred experience working with data analytics in AWS, including Datalake, Lake Formation, Athena, AWS Redshift, Quicksight, etc.Preferred experience developing web services in JavaPreferred degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related fieldAt SMART Technologies, privacy is at the core of our software design.
