Director of Network EngineeringMadridMadrid, Community of Madrid, ES*High level of English proficiency required*What we're looking for:We want a deeply technical network leader to architect, deploy, and optimize high-performance wireless infrastructures from Layer 1 through Layer 3.You will design advanced routing topologies (eBGP, OSPF, IPv6, EVPN VXLAN) while overseeing PtP/PtMP wireless deployments across mmWave, 6 GHz, 5 GHz, and 2.
4 GHz bands for both backhaul and access.On the core infrastructure side, you'll configure and tune Juniper QFX/EX switches alongside x86-based VPP routers, automate deployments with Ansible/Python, and integrate network functions within Proxmox/Kubernetes for scalable, cloud-native services.Security, resilience, and field execution are paramount: you'll implement WPA2-Enterprise (802.
1X) and IPsec tunnels, manage ring topologies and failover to eliminate single points of failure, and potentially lead on-the-ground installations (tower/antenna mounting, troubleshooting).Collaboration with cross-functional teams, clear documentation, and mentoring junior engineers will round out your responsibilities.

inc).Responsibilities:Network Architecture & Design: Design, implement, and optimize wireless mesh networks using cutting-edge technologies, including mmWave, 6 GHz, 5 GHz, and 2.
4 GHz.
Own key Layer 2/Layer 3 architectural decisions for scalability, routing (eBGP, IPv6, EVPN VXLAN), and real-time performance optimization.
Lead end-to-end deployment strategies, including Point-to-Point (PtP) and Point-to-Multipoint (PtMP) configurations for fixed wireless access.Core Network & Virtualization: Oversee core infrastructure using x86 routers (VPP) and Juniper QFX/EX switches (or similar) to ensure high throughput, low latency, and redundancy.
Utilize virtualization platforms (Proxmox, Kubernetes, etc. )
to deploy scalable network functions and services in a cloud-native environment.Security & Resilience: Ensure robust network reliability through self-healing designs, advanced validation protocols (e. g. , Proof of Backhaul, Proof of Location), and redundant ring topologies.
Implement and manage WPA2-Enterprise (802.
1X) or MPSK for wireless security, as well as IPsec or similar encryption for inter-facility links.
Oversee intrusion detection/prevention systems, firewalls, and security best practices to safeguard network operations.Project Management & Field Deployment: Lead on-the-ground deployment, including installation, troubleshooting, and integration with partners and external stakeholders.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams (procurement, site installers, regulatory bodies) to ensure timely, compliant, and cost-effective rollouts.
Document detailed runbooks, network diagrams, and SOPs for long-term maintenance, scaling, and support.Collaboration & Partnership: Manage technical relationships with key ecosystem partners: data centers, infrastructure providers, and internet exchanges.
Ensure alignment on capacity, performance, and deployment strategies, including BGP peering, upstream transit, and Internet Exchange Point (IXP) integrations.
Work closely with internal teams to develop innovative and cost-effective connectivity solutions leveraging blockchain-based reward mechanisms.Qualifications:Experience & Technical Background: 5+ years in network engineering, telecom, or related roles with emphasis on wireless mesh networks, routing, and performance optimization.
Hands-on experience deploying or maintaining high-capacity wireless networks (e. g. , mmWave, 6 GHz, 5 GHz, 2.
4 GHz).
Proven expertise in Layer 2/Layer 3 protocols, specifically eBGP, OSPF, IPv6, and EVPN VXLAN on Juniper, Cisco, or equivalent hardware.Core & Edge Proficiency: Familiarity with Juniper QFX/EX series switches, x86-based routers (Vector Packet Processing / VPP), and virtualization platforms (Proxmox, Kubernetes, etc.
).
Knowledge of network automation (e. g. , Ansible, Python, or Junos automation) is a plus.Security & Compliance: Experience with 802.
1X authentication, MPSK, WPA2-Enterprise, and IPsec encryption for securing wireless and wired links.
Understanding of regulatory frameworks (e. g. , CAK in Kenya), frequency licensing, and compliance with spectrum allocation and usage guidelines.Field Deployment & Leadership: Ability to design and deploy scalable network solutions in real-world environments, including on-the-ground installation and troubleshooting.
