About your role
The Childcare and Family Policies Chair at Institute for Advanced Family Studies (IESF) is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the area of childcare and family policies at UIC Barcelona.
The team works on a wide variety of research, including the relationship between families and school, childcare, time use surveys, bullying and cyberbullying, and family policies.
Key tasks
The post-doctoral fellow will take a leadership role in The Chair, mentored by Prof. Montserrat Gas and Prof. Marc Grau.
Our Chair is focused on qualitative and quantitative analysis of existing, and often open datasets.
Duties will include:
• Carrying out and supervising data analyses
• Writing manuscripts for publication in scientific journals
• Assisting with, and leading the writing of, grant applications for research funding
• Communicating with research funders and project administration
The postdoctoral fellow is expected to develop proficiency in relevant literature in this research area, be involved in the preparation of first- and co-authored manuscripts as well as research proposals, and make presentations at professional meetings.
Minimum Requirements
- PhD degree in Sociology, Psychology, Social Policy or Education is required.
- Previous work on family studies is preferred.
Assessment criteria
The following aspects of the applicant's CV will be considered:
• Professional knowledge and experience (75%)
• The ability to undertake mentored research with a high degree of independence.
• Special attention will be paid to applicants who have made valuable contributions in the area of scientific productivity by publishing research papers in high-impact journals.
• Research experience abroad in the area of family studies will be valued (55%).
• Specific techniques (30%):
o Qualitative analyses
o Statistical analysis
o Specialized software.
• Proficiency in speaking and writing in English (15%).
• Competences (25%):
o To know and share the mission, vision and values of the University (20%).

o The ability to work independently and as a member of a diverse team (15%).
o Flexibility and adaptability (15%).
o The ability to supervise and guide undergraduate and graduate students in their research projects (10%).

o Oral and written ability in English and/or Spanish and/or Catalan (10%).

Selection process
The UIC Barcelona selection process, following that which is outlined in the European OTM-R, will be carried out in two phases: a first pre-selection phase and a second interview phase.
The PI of the project will be tasked with carrying out both phases, both the initial evaluation and the subsequent interview.
He might partner with other experts inside and outside of UIC Barcelona for completing the two phases of the selection process.
The following criteria will be assessed in the initial phase:
• Curriculum vitae
• Research skills
• Teaching and supervising potential
• Interdisciplinarity of the candidate and short research proposal
In the second phase of interviews, the following will be considered:
• Discussion of the candidate's CV relevant to the position
• Teaching and supervising activities
• Oral communication skills
• Interpersonal skills.
